Just having one of those bad days.. Vent here!

Sooooooo, last night, a few friends of mine invited me to a karaoke bar. I don't drink, but I went anyways, just because it's karaoke.

And I was KICKED OUT! All my friends were too.

The cops were like "You're all out there stumbling and totally drunk!" and I was like "I'm sober! And my friends haven't had much to drink! We were DANCING!" and they were like "You dance like drunk people! Leave!"

So we were kicked out. So we went to Bubble Tease. And we were kicked out there too.

We met some security guards for this local research place called RIM (Research in Motion). And we started talking to them, and we were just joking around and we were like "Last night, we broke into RIM and had an orgy. On the blackberries. We turned them all onto vibrate." And we joked around with these security guards for about 30 minutes, and they laughed a bit too... but it ends up, at the end of the day, they thought we were serious. And they threatened to beat us up if we didn't leave.

AND THEN!

We came back to my apartment. There was a couch at the end of the driveway (it's a pretty long driveway), and we wanted to steal it. So my two roomies, and our two guy friends, waited by the couch while I went up to unlock the door. AND I WAS ATTACKED!

This 40 year old GRABBED me from behind and was like "If you want a boyfriend, COME TO MY PLACE RIGHT NOW!" and I SCREAMED until my friends came and rescued me. I was so scared.

But we atleast got the couch.

So that was my night, from 9pm to 3am.

O.o Whoa.

All I can complain about right now is the cramp I had this morning.

Aww, that happens with RAs a lot though, helps you stay professional about dealing with them though.

Ok so on to my day. I've been stuck in the freakin airport for a long time now. I think we'll get out of here and home but it'll be late tonight. Nothing like a long, boring day of travel that could have been finished in the span of just a few hours.

It seems like quite a few of us were RAs...I was one, but only dealt with upperclassmen and grad students, all over 21. I was probably the youngest person in the program

I had started to apply to be an RA and one of the RD's had helped me out and written a recommendation for me but then I didn't progress with it because I felt like I just didn't want the responsibility it required and thought it would take away from other things. I think for me it was the right choice

I just want to clarify something, lol. When you all say "RA", do you just mean for one floor?

Where I'm from, we have a don for each floor, and then the RA is in charge of the whole building. Being an RA is inteeeeense. Even more intense than being a don, which is still very intense, lol.

I loved my don last year. I miss her I'll have to Facebook creep her and find out where she is... then stalk her down.

It's dependent upon colleges, I think. Traditionally you have one floor, 2 RAs (at least that how it works at my school). There was about 75 kids for 2 RAs. Another dorm had 3 RAs every 2 floors.

The program I was in was 2 RAs, and because everyone had their own apartment in a huge complex, it wasn't so much patrolling anything. More to be a liaison between the students and the staff.


I think at least what I read from your post, don = RA (Resident Assistant)
RA = RD (Resident Director - usually a full time staff member of the college who has a Master's Degree in something related)

Ya, where I'm from, it's between 50 and 60 students for one don. Then our RA (Residence Adviser) was just an upper year student who was in charge of the whole building, and all the dons report to them. But then, there's an RLAC (Residence Life Area Coordinator) who is a full time staff. They live in one of the buildings, but are in charge of about 3 buildings (about 600-700 students). They're basically just there to make sure everything goes smoothly and to do all the administrative and more advanced work.

Like, if you get in trouble, you have 4 strikes. First, you have a meeting with your don. Second one, you have a meeting with your RA. Third, you have a meeting with your RLAC, and then fourth, you just get kicked out of residence.

At Kent it depends on the building. We have 80 freshman per floor, so we have two RAs per floor. In other buildings there may be just as many upperclassmen per floor, but they only have RAs every other floor. It all depends.

Our system as far as the hierarchy of positions is similar to what DJ described.

See, at my school, the dons are the ONLY upperclassmen in residence. We don't even have enough residence space for all the first years, let alone the whole student body. Once you finish second year, you have to get an apartment/commute from home. We're the second smallest university in Ontario, with only 14,000ish students... and our whole campus is on one city block. Definitely not enough room for everyone to live, lol

It's strange, because when I was at my school they were putting people into hotels nearby because they had no space. The only housing they guaranteed was to freshman (everyone still had the choice to live on or off campus but freshman usually were on campus) - now all frosh and sophs are mandated to live on campus. Still, it was difficult (usually) for jrs. and srs. to get housing, because it would be completely full by the time the rest of the student body was taken care of.

BUT BACK TO VENTING.

I had the tv on last night, it was raining and thundering, and I was playing a computer game...apparently someone beeped the horn outside and then rang the doorbell, both of which I didn't hear, and by the end of the night me and other people were yelling at each other and me slamming doors in faces.

But I did get 12 hours of sleep, and that was nice.

I caaaaaaaaaaan't sleep. I've been up since 7pm yesterday...I need to get up in 2 hours...it's not really a bad day yet...but it WILL be.

i need a job. i hate not working.

It's one of those BORING days! I seriously have not a single thing to do and it seems all of my friends are either out of town or working. I really wanted to get out today, too! One of the last nice days for the rain starts for the next 7 months or so.

My moms boyfriend is a fricken IDIOT.. so my mom goes outta town and leaves my bro with her boyfriend.. that she lives with.. anyway she calls him tonight and realizes he's DRUNK.. that he brought my bro to a party with him.. and then left him at some other persons house.. with a friend he JUST made today.. like seriously.. how stupid.. plus my mom doesn't even know the people.. she doesn't even know if their are adults where my bro is right now.. doesn't even know WHERE this place is.. My moms boyfriend is all like oh well I have known these people a long time.. that doesn't mean he knows them well.. since like.. for all we know he's just done business for them.. like how stupid.. NOT TO MENTION he said the mom of the kid that my bro is with.. IS AT THE PARTY TOO! So who is with the kids?! Are they by themselves?! I don't care if it's in a trailer court.. you do not leave them by themselves.. sooo then my mom asks if I'll call the cops.. and I'm like I don't feel comfortable doing this.. I mean I'm not gonna have my moms boyfriend all pissy at me for calling the cops on him.. it's just too involved there.. I don't even live with them. So she's calling the cops on him right now.. to find my brother.. and get them to bring him to my house I guess.. I don't know it's all crazy.. I don't know what the cops are gonna say to her.. but I guess we'll have to wait and see. *sigh* I"m so frustrated.. my night of relaxation has turned into having to worry and deal with my mom freaking out from like 4 hours away.

OH! MY! GOOOOOOOSH!!!!

I HATE MY LIFE!

K, so, class starts tomorrow, and my two roommates, Becky and Kai, our friend Leah, and our friends Steve, Adrian, and Josh (who are all roommates), plus me, decided to go to a bar to celebrate the end of summer.

BAD EFFING IDEA!

First, this bar was the sketchiest place ever. Anywhere you can get a shot for a buck is sketchy. This place was just SOAKING and dripping pipes and it was underground and it smelled like a yeast infection... People actually call it Dirty Phil's instead of just Phil's.

Nooooow, on to the issues... First, I was attacked again by creepers attempting to get in my pants while dancing. Then, Becky and Kai drank FAR too much. I've never seen either of them this wasted. I don't drink, and thank GOD since a sober person was really needed... they randomly kissed 3 times. And started stripping. I had to put an end to all of this.

While suffering from massive blisters on my feet which were KILLING me every time I walked.

Now, these three guys... all of them I kinda like. And during this night? A drunken Becky confessed her undying love to Steve, a drunken Leah and drunken Josh realized they were meant to be, and a VERY drunk Kai and Adrian hooked up.

Three chances, and I missed all of them.

And I was the one lugging everyone back to our apartment. I was the one dealing with all those drunk people. And I'm the one who has to wake up early to go get coffee for everyone so they make it to class... I'm ALLERGIC to coffee, and have no class until afternoon. And I still get to do an early coffee run!

So I'm pretty much depressed now.

aww that sounds horrible Jess!! But it just shows what a good friend you are! Always remember that one!!

One friend of mine.. I am not on speaking terms with now.. because I fully realized what a jerk he is.. but on a happier note.. a friend I haven't talked to in a couple months messaged me today so that was eventful.. after all I did yell at him and make him feel bad for about 20 minutes till I told him I forgive him.. now that was great fun lol.
