There is so much music I don't have

And when I say that, I'm not even talking about obscure, indie, or relatively unknown stuff. I'm talking about like, big-name, mainstream, history of rock and popular music stuff.

Examples:

Metallica
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
David Bowie
Billy Idol/Generation X
Monkees, Beegees, all that really old crap
Elvis Presley (!)
and so much more.

I was looking through my library, and noticed I don't have a single full album for any of these artists. Some, like Metallica, Led Zeppelin, or David Bowie, I don't think I even have a single song in my library. Maaaybe Changes by David Bowie, but I don't know.

And then there's like a ton of eighties stuff I don't have or know anything about, rock, rap, pop, etc. Nineties I have a ton of stuff to acquire. Like...

It's overwhelming to think about. The fact that I've got a library of somewhere between 10-14K songs, yet I've only scraped the tip of the iceberg is exhausting...

Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley. Three more I don't have a single full album for. Lyke wut?

Eh...me neither but it doesn't bother me....especially Metallica...I listened to Metallica in junior high and got over it really quick. Same with Pink Floyd in college. I have a real mental block about listening to things I'm "supposed" to listen to.

I do however have every song by The Monkees. Fucking "I'm Gonna Buy Me A Dog" is the reason why I love Micky Dolenz so much.

Well, considering most of the things I'm "supposed" to listen to are things that have become wildly popular at some point in time for one reason or another, in the greater scheme of trying to learn as much about music as possible...it would be silly to ignore such huge gaping holes. I don't feel obligated to listen to this stuff...I want to.

I always feel obligated...but that's probably because I usually don't like what it is I'm listening to in this situation.
