Did anyone here get "the sex talk" from the rents?

I totally didn't, and I'm so glad I didn't.

Is it normal now to not get it? Or is it still a frequent thing?

Because I totally learned everything from either school or the internet. I can't even begin to imagine how that would come up.



I think the closest thing I ever got to a "sex talk" was this past year when I was at my doctor's (he's actually my pediatrician -- I've only ever had one physician), and it was the first time he'd asked if I was sexually active, and at the time, I was like, "No, not really," and he awkwardly started to stutter something like, "Do...um...you, do...hmm..." and I was like, "I'm gay," and he breathed a sigh of relief, and then was like, "So you know of course...um, that...uh..." and I was like, "That I still need protection, yeah" and he breathed another sigh of relief.

It was hilarious. Poor guy normally just deals with kids and their parents. He probably rarely has to do that, lol

Oh man....I had the best sex talk....it might be hard to tell over the internet but I'm going to try.

My mom made a picnic...and we went to the park. While there she started awkwardly talking about something and stuttering and it soon became clear to me that she was going to try to talk to me about sex. And I stared at her blankly and let her go on. And she was so flustered and said this "Now, there's an erection, and sometimes when you get an erection, it's an erection because erections are when your penis is erect." It was that nonsensical but not those exact words. The best part is, my mother, she talks with her hands. And so once she paused I started laughing so hard and she was like "What?" and I said "Every time you said the word erection you went like this." And showed her that her index finger would shoot straight out, mimicking an erection. And then I said "Also, you know that I've been working as a peer educator on sex, drugs, AIDS, and suicide...for the past 5 years...and that I'm 17...right?"

It was awesome.

HAHAHA! I totally did the finger motion to myself JUST to confirm that I did in fact understand what you were talking about. And what an awkward way to start that sex talk. Like, you're seventeen -- if you hadn't gotten hard by that point, you weren't ever going to.

I never got any sort of talk from my parents. My older brother gave me a talk. I was eight and he was twelve. That was the only talk I ever got.

My mom didn't give me the period talk either, so I was definitely convinced I was dying.

I can't even imagine getting a period talk. I remember, and this is crazy, but I remember in like, the second or third grade, some girls came running out of the bathroom looking for a teacher looking horrified. They were saying something about blood, and we were all like, terrified... Then a handful of years later, I remembered the incident randomly, and I was like, "Oh, Shannon got her first period really early... How gross..."

Like... this sounds terrible, but I am terrified to have a daughter, because two guys who want nothing to do with vagina raising something that will eventually bleed from its vagina...? It just doesn't sound like a good idea

But you can dress her pretty.

ahahaha, that would be terrifying! I was scared enough when I was like... twelve? I think? But I can't imagine being like, seven!

Just do what my mom did though, Doug. She gave me a giant book called The Giant Book of Everything. If I had a question, I looked it up in there. That book also made me scared of sloths though, so don't give it to a kid.

Grade six sex ed was the greatest though. People asked the greatest question. This was the best 20 seconds of my life:

Boy: Where do babies come from?
Teacher: ...a woman's vagina.
Girl: Mrs Flemming, when you had YOUR baby, did your water breaking splash the doctor?
Teacher: ....No...

It was the first sex ed class we ever had, so the greatest questions were asked. Then they showed us a video called Good Touch, Bad Touch, about a pedo clown, a creepy aunt, and Uncle Larry and his penis.

We...weren't really allowed to ask questions, I feel. Our sex ed was in a Catholic school, so it was quick and awkward and no one spoke... like... HOW CATHOLICS HAVE SEX OMG.

My mom tried to talk to me when I was making brownies in middle school. I distinctly remember being there mixing the eggs, oil, water, and brownie mix in a bowl. I basically just told her "I already know" and she left me alone.

I was really hoping we would just avoid the whole conversation because she hadn't brought it up yet and I already learned everything from talking with my friend Andrew in the back of the library during silent reading.

My mom was so tricky though! She knew I would not want to have the awkward conversation with her, but she also knew that I could not desert a bowl of delicious brownie mix to avoid the awkwardness.

LOL I never had one with my mom, but I remember one day in highschool I was in the kitchen with my mom and she's like Kenya.. boys have penises.. and I'm like NO SHIT REALLY!? LOL it was so funny.


As for the period talk.. we didn't have one but I remember the day it started.. I'm super close to my mom so I ran to find her and I'm like OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING I"M BLEEDIN!!! So she explained lol and I'm like that's gross.. and annoying hahaha.

Also one Christmas eve when we had a bunch of people over for drinks my dad tried to talk to me about always respecting women and making sure I used protection, he was really drunk, it was pretty hilarious.

Nope..... I didnt have any talks with my mom about Sex. If she had brought it up when I was a kid I probably would have said.... MOOOOOOOOOOOOM, i'm on the phone go away!!!!!

I remember when I was really really young my mom told me that "boys have penises (I think she called it wee wees lol)", and girls don't. My mom told me a couple years ago that after that talk, I would study people's crotches to figure out if they were a boy or a girl. I even asked my uncle one time "do you have a penis?" One Sunday morning I asked my female Sundy school teacher if she had a penis. She called my mom after wondering what the deal was. My mom had an eye on me many weeks following in fear I would go ask my pastor. LOL.... fun times, fun times!

I got the "don't look at porn on my computer" talk from my dad. We got sex ed in school. *shrug*

Oh...my golly.

I want to know exactly what this talk consisted of because it sounds like the best 'talk' a parent can give.


I also got the "Stay away from strangers on the internet" talk from my mother one day. She kept telling me "One wrong click and you could be murdered or kidnapped" also I was 22 at the time. And I just looked at her and said "I'm pretty sure Amanda isn't going to kidnap me mom, can I go back to my survivor game now?" and that is a true story, every word.

Also in the same story she told me to stay away from Heroin and Crack, even though I would be tempted to try it at least once. She was always very behind with these talks.

I feel like I left that implying that I already tried Heroin and Crack. I didn't, I just meant I was 22...so if I was going to...it probably happened before I graduated college.
