| I ranked mine, so number 1 is obviously the one I want to win the most. And only included ones from movies I saw, because you can't really comment on something you haven't seen.
Best Foreign Language Film: - I'm embarrassed to say I haven't seen any of these so I can't comment.
Best Documentary Feature: - The Cove is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen period.
1. The Cove – Louie Psihoyos and Fisher Stevens 2. Food, Inc. – Robert Kenner and Elise Pearlstein 3. The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers – Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith
Best Animated Feature: - I wasn't a huge fan of any of the movies in this category.
1. Fantastic Mr. Fox – Wes Anderson 2. Up – Pete Docter 3. Coraline – Henry Selick
Best Adapted Screenplay: - I think District 9 deserves this one, but I don't think it will get it, but all of the screenplays in this category were really great so it's a deserved win no matter what.
1. District 9 – Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell from Alive in Joburg by Blomkamp 2. An Education – Nick Hornby from An Education by Lynn Barber 3. Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire – Geoffrey Fletcher from Push by Sapphire 4. Up in the Air – Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner from Up in the Air by Walter Kirn 5. In the Loop – Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche from The Thick of It created by Iannucci
Best Original Screenplay: - The Messenger I would also want to win Best Picture if it was up, it was so amazing, The Hurt Locker was too but I just was more drawn in to The Messenger overall.
1. The Messenger – Alessandro Camon and Oren Moverman 2. The Hurt Locker – Mark Boal 3. Inglourious Basterds – Quentin Tarantino 4. Up – Tom McCarthy, Bob Peterson and Pete Docter 5. A Serious Man – Joel Coen and Ethan Coen
Best Supporting Actress: - I'm very torn. I want Mo'Nique to win just because she was incredible but also because it's unlike anything she's ever done...but that is also the same reason why I hate when certain people win...so I'm torn...I feel better about it at least because she was actually incredible and gave the best performance out of all these women, but Anna Kendrick was also just amazing in her movie, so I'm torn.
1. Mo'Nique – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as Mary Lee Johnston 2. Anna Kendrick – Up in the Air as Natalie Keener 3. Vera Farmiga – Up in the Air as Alex Goran
Best Supporting Actor: - Really...Stanley Tucci? Also Christoph Waltz was amazing but I'm going with Woody on this one, The Messenger was great and he gave a beautiful performance in it.
1. Woody Harrelson – The Messenger as Capt. Tony Stone 2. Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds as Col. Hans Landa 3. Stanley Tucci – The Lovely Bones as George Harvey
Best Actress: - Yeah...this is what I'm talking about where someone's going to win JUST for stepping out of their comfort zone and doing something counter to what they normally do...whether they gave the best performance or not. 1. Carey Mulligan – An Education as Jenny Miller 2. Gabourey Sidibe – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire as Claireece "Precious" Jones 3. Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side as Leigh Anne Tuohy
Best Actor: - This is another really tough one. I don't think Clooney should really be up though, there wasn't anything all that special about his performance in Up In The Air. But A Single Man and The Hurt Locker were just ALL about these men, there wouldn't have been a movie without them and they were both incredible. In the end I think I just went with a movie that deserves the recognition but can't get it in any other category.
1. Colin Firth – A Single Man as George Falconer 2. Jeremy Renner – The Hurt Locker as Sgt. William James 3. George Clooney – Up in the Air as Ryan Bingham
Best Director: - Kathryn Bigelow has proven herself time and again and I hope she gets her moment.
1. Kathryn Bigelow – The Hurt Locker 2. Jason Reitman – Up in the Air 3. Lee Daniels – Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire 4. Quentin Tarantino – Inglourious Basterds 5. James Cameron – Avatar
Best Picture: - The only reason why Up is last is because I think it's a joke that it's the second animated feature to ever be nominated for this award, only because now we get to nominate 10 movies and people are still upset that WALL-E didn't get nominated last year. Up is the least deserving to be in this category in my opinion, but I liked it more than A Serious Man, Avatar, or The Blind Side. 1. The Hurt Locker 2. Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire 3. Inglourious Basterds 4. District 9 5. An Education 6. Up in the Air 7. The Blind Side 8. Avatar 9. A Serious Man 10. Up

| I really wish I could say much in this thread, but I haven't seen like...anything.
I've only seen Avatar, District 9, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Coraline.
The only thing I can really say is that I want Mr. Fox to win animated feature, and I don't really want Avatar or Up to win Best Picture (which is kinda a dick move, but whatever).

| ...I've only seen 1. And that one is made up of half of Avatar and half of The Cove.
I haven't heard of a ridiculous amount of those movies, and have no interest in almost all of them.
All I know is that I want The Cove to win its category, and Avatar to not win Best Picture

| I was pleased overall. I guessed all of the acting categories along with directing and Best Picture correctly, but they weren't all necessarily who I WANTED to win. I'm just so happy that Avatar failed. <3 | |

| I agree with that Cam, like really, I'm glad Avatar lost everything else (just because it didn't deserve it over other movies) but it absolutely deserved visual effects, like, it jumped the technology of film ahead by an astounding amount. There's no way it could have lost that category, just no way. | |

| I don't see it as Avatar failed, it was nominated therefore that in itself makes it a win. Basically with that logic you are saying movies like Mystic River which lost to the last LOTR movie is a fail because of losing that which is stupid.
You don't have to like the movie, that's fine as that is your opinion but posting every chance you can to trash the movie and stuff is getting a little annoying. Just saying, not trying to be mean or anything, its just going a little too far.
ANYWAYS, I didn't watch the Oscars this year, usually do but didn't really care for anything as far as awards go. I haven't seen most of the movies nominated and really am not interested in 90% of them. It just wasn't a year for me I guess. Maybe next year will be better

| It was nominated politically and lost to things far more deserving despite the political missteps involved by others. It was a big 'ole slap in the face and after insulting cinema everywhere by being included in the categories it did, I guess it did fail. You know, I wouldn't have thought to say that before until you pointed it out, but I guess it did. Specifically Avatar, as it had no basis for being included. It's easy to discern that it was indeed a failure as opposed to other movies that have simply 'lost' in the past. | |

| You can't really say that it wasn't a loss, when it did lose. Yes, 8 other films lost as well, but Avatar was one of them. I just feel it is a bigger failure because of the hype around the movie leading up to the loss. Countless comments about it being a life changing experience, a masterpiece, the best movie of all time with the best director...and then it got owned. It just put itself on a higher pedastel than the other films, so it had further to fall. | |

| I don't really care if it won or lost, and I think most people feel that way. I agree it isn't the best movie ever, I personally liked Up a lot more than Avatar, however yes it lost the award but it'll still always be known as an academy award nominated movie, therefore it isn't the epic failure you are making it out to be, that's what I'm saying. It's just annoying the hell out of me the lack of respect you have for anyone else's opinion. I stated I liked the movie and thought that certain aspects of it were good and each of you go on and attack everything I said. It was my opinion and you don't have to agree with me but don't tell me I'm wrong. That's just stupid
Don't like the movie, I don't really care, but get off your high horse, seriously.

| This is just a discussion. Some people like it, and some people don't. If you publicly voice an opinion, someone is going to publicly voice theirs back...you can't take it personally. I don't think anyone here is being especially disrespectful. No one is telling you to shut up or that your opinion doesn't count. After all, people are responding to you and having the discussion. | |

| No one is telling you that you're wrong Pete, but just as you have the strong opinion that you liked Avatar, I have the opposite. I will obviously respond to you whether that is to agree or disagree, but you cannot get overly upset if it's the latter. I think we all respect your opinion, but no one needs to accept it as correct. | |

| I didn't ask you to accept it as correct, my opinion that is.
My problem that in the initial thread you posted your opinion that you didn't like it, I posted mine saying what I thought of it, and afterward I was told that the movie wasn't original and everything I said I felt was good about it you had to tell me was bad. I mean, you already stated you didn't like it, I stated I liked it, discussing what you think about the movie is one thing but to bring up everything I stated to say that it isn't good is annoying. I understand you didn't like it but I didn't need everyone telling me every aspect of the movie I thought was good was bad.
but whatever, I'm no longer gonna post my opinion on anything anymore. So just forget I ever said anything.

Then perhaps it is you who needs to respect other's opinions. Anywho, I find it weird that the Oscars are over for another year. When the nominations came out I was pumped and I began to compile my movie list, and then before I knew it March was here and now it's all over. So much build up, but so worth it. Mucho Oscahhhh luvvvvvvv. Until next year, little golden man!

Then perhaps it is you who needs to respect other's opinions. The thing I'm trying to say is certain people had already expressed that they didn't like the movie and then I posted my thoughts and their next post was saying everything I liked was bad, that bothered me. I understand you don't like the movie, I posted I liked it and other people posted their thoughts on the movie, but taking what I said and saying that it was bad was to me telling me I was wrong. I don't really care anymore though, once OPS2 finishes I think I'm taking a break from online all together.

| I'm sorry everyone, the issue I'm having is that anytime I share my opinion on something, I have a very strong opinion on things and while I definitely don't expect people to agree with me, have had a lot of people disrespect me regarding it, what I mean is I've been told I'm stupid and an idiot for some of my opinions, whether it be related to movies or something else entirely.
So I guess the littlest things are starting to get to me, and I really am sorry to all of you for acting stupid, cause I have been. I have been seriously thinking it'd be best if I just kept my mouth shut and didn't share my opinions on things and, not just that but not be social at all with anyone at all.
I've lost friends and a potential relationship because of what I liked and my opinion on things.

| Pete, I totally do NOT want you to go offline all together. I just hope you know that I felt strongly against this film, and many others films, that you may like. If I made you feel offended or attacked in any way I apologize, but I honestly felt like this was a simple discussion and had a lot of issues towards it. I would honestly appreciate if you stick around. Avatar may have caused chaos on this board, but it is no reason to set your sights elsewhere. Whatever decision you make is best, but please know that (and I THINK I speak for everyone else) that we would rather you not completely disappear off the boards. Every member is valued, no matter the agreements or disagreements they may encounter. | |
