| Okay, for those of you who don't know, here's how the real Apples to Apples works: - Quote :
There are two decks of cards. One deck of cards is the "things" deck. The other is the "adjectives" deck. Each person holds a hand of seven things. Each round, a "judge" is selected, and the judge draws an adjective card. Each person (except the judge) then has to select on of the cards in their hand that "applies" to the adjective selected by the judge.
When all of the cards have been selected, the judge reads the selections and decides who wins.
If it sounds insanely subjective, it is. The goal of the game is to cater to the judge. Some judges play very literally, so if the adjective is "fuzzy," they look for the selection that would actually be the fuzziest. Some players play the complete opposite, usually for humor, so if that same card was pulled (fuzzy), it might be smarter to choose something that is not fuzzy or is in fact really, really awful (like Charles Manson...though in a way, I suppose he's kinda fuzzy). In the real game, the cards are selected for us. On OrgPlanet, we create our own deck. If you'd like to play, here's what you need to do:
- Sign up below!
- Send me a PM with at least 10 adjectives and between20-30 "things". (Please read the Guidelines below before submitting adjectives and "things".) Any "thing" cards (not adjectives) not used in the last installment will automatically be shuffled into the new deck; there are about 40 of them left.
- IF YOU ARE A RETURNING PLAYER: You may keep up to two non-blank cards from your hand in Apples to Apples 1. Send me a PM with the cards you'd like to keep, if any.
That's all there is too it!Guidelines:An adjective is a descriptive word like "fuzzy," "eccentric," or "painful." Also, what defines a "thing" for this game? Here's a list of ideas to get you thinking:
- people (they should be famous, recognizable, familiar to this forum, or "common"; they can be real or fictional)
...Examples: Anne Frank, Benji Madden, Carl Winslow, vegetarians, etc.
- famous places
...Examples: Paris, France; The United Arab Emirates; Antarctica, etc.
- generic places
...Examples: A Public Bathroom, My Closet, The Olive Garden, etc.
- events in History
...Examples: The Big Bang, World War II, the Lunar Landing, etc.
- generic events
...Examples: A Drive-By Shooting, A Blind Date, A Family Reunion, etc.
- ideas, philosophies, or institutions
...Examples: Existentialism, Democracy, Zen Buddhism, etc.
- movies, songs, books, etc.
...Examples: The Lion King, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Survivor, etc.
- proper or common nouns
...Examples: The Eiffel Tower, A Jar of Peanut Butter, Armpit Hair, The Contents of My Dad's Sock Drawer, etc.
- "-ing" verbs
...Examples: Taking A Shower, Getting Your Torch Snuffed, Breathing, etc.
How the game will work on OrgPlanet:Once all the cards have been submitted, each player will receive anywhere from 10 cards. We will then alternate judges based on the order in which people sign up. Since we don't have an actual deck, I'll let you know which card has been drawn for that round's judge. The person whose card is selected by the judge will get a point. The person who reaches five points first wins the game. I (Willy Wonka) will not be playing since this is a subjective game (I'd have an enormous advantage in knowing who played which cards). My role as host will be to monitor the cards that are played as well as assigning new cards to each player at the end of each round. Cards will be distributed via PM, so as long as the game is being played, don't delete PMs related to this game. Feel free to ask questions in this thread.

| There are some new elements for Apples to Apples 2!
Something that applies all the time...
Combos: A small change, but in Apples to Apples 2, you can submit two or more cards together if you'd like. Sometimes cards are simply hilarious together, especially when the adjective applies to their combination. Example: You have "Abraham Lincoln" and "John Wilkes Booth" in your hand at the same time, and the adjective is "Tragic." You are allowed to submit "Abraham Lincoln" and "John Wilkes Booth" together. When you submit combos, you will receive two cards when you draw. You can do this at any time as many times as you'd like.
Special Cards...
Cancel Cards: Each person will receive 2 "Cancel Cards" when the game begins. After the "thing" cards have been flipped for the round, one person may choose to use a "Cancel Card" to remove one of the submitted cards from play. Only one card may be removed from play each round. There is no time granted in order to use a "Cancel Card"; you simply must use it before the Judge makes their selection. The amount of Cancel Cards available for each person will be public.
Double-Submit Cards: Each person will receive 2 "Double-Submit Cards" when the game begins. If you choose to use a "Double-Submit Card," you may submit two cards in one round. This is not a combo; you are simply allowed to submit two cards that you think might win independently of each other. The amount of Double-Submit Cards will be kept private by the host.
Blank Cards: These aren't new, but they will be handled a teeny bit differently. Each person will receive 2 "Blank Cards" when the game begins in addition to their ten cards. They will work the exact same way as they did in the last game: you will not get a new card when you use one. The amount of Double-Submit Cards will be kept private by the host.
What do you guys think?
