OrgPlanet: Apples to Apples SIGN UP HERE

Okay, for those of you who don't know, here's how the real Apples to Apples works:

There are two decks of cards. One deck of cards is the "things" deck. The other is the "adjectives" deck. Each person holds a hand of seven things. Each round, a "judge" is selected, and the judge draws an adjective card. Each person (except the judge) then has to select on of the cards in their hand that "applies" to the adjective selected by the judge.

When all of the cards have been selected, the judge reads the selections and decides who wins.

If it sounds insanely subjective, it is. The goal of the game is to cater to the judge. Some judges play very literally, so if the adjective is "fuzzy," they look for the selection that would actually be the fuzziest. Some players play the complete opposite, usually for humor, so if that same card was pulled (fuzzy), it might be smarter to choose something that is not fuzzy or is in fact really, really awful (like Charles Manson...though in a way, I suppose he's kinda fuzzy).

In the real game, the cards are selected for us. On OrgPlanet, we're going to create our own deck.

The next step, after signing up, is to submit to me (ewgross) a set of cards. Each player needs to submit AT LEAST 10 adjective cards and 20 thing cards. You are more than welcome to submit more, because chances are, you'll come up with some good ideas!

A reminder: an adjective is a descriptive word like "fuzzy," "eccentric," or "painful."

Also, what defines a thing for this game? Here's a list of ideas to get you thinking:

- people (they should be people everyone playing would know or has access to learning about)
- famous places (see above)
- generic places (ex: A public bathroom)
- events in History (ex: The Big Bang)
- generic events (ex: A drive-by shooting)
- ideas or philosophies (ex: Existentialism)
- movies, songs, books, etc.
- proper or common nouns (ex: The Eiffel Tower, A jar of peanut butter)


How the game will work on OrgPlanet:

Once all the cards have been submitted, each player will receive anywhere from 7-10 cards (depending on how many are submitted). We will then alternate judges based on the order in which people sign up. Since we don't have an actual deck, I'll let you know which card has been drawn for that round's judge.

The person whose card is selected by the judge will get a point. The person who reaches five points first wins the game.

I (ewgross) will not be playing since this is a subjective game (I'd have an enormous advantage in knowing who played which cards). My role as host will be to monitor the cards that are played as well as assigning new cards to each player at the end of each round. Cards will be distributed via PM, so as long as the game is being played, don't delete PMs related to this game.
