Dr. Who Question Empty
PostSubject: Dr. Who Question   Dr. Who Question EmptySat May 08, 2010 7:34 am

I've only ever watched episodes of Dr. Who that were crossovers with Torchwood and I don't have any real interest in watching regular Dr. Who episodes much. I have no idea if anyone on this board watches it but for some reason this question popped into my head and I'm a little obsessed with finding out the answer.

So, I could be COMPLETELY wrong about my assumptions here and it's just based on what I seem to garner from what I see in episode previews or whatnot while watching TV. So, The Doctor gets various companions for, whatever reason, I have no idea why, but that's not even the question. So, he gets them from like "our time" you could say. At least it seems all his companions from this latest version have come like (I'm going to make up years) Rose was from 2006, and then Martha Jones he finds in 2007 and then Donna in 2009 and then this new companion, Amy, he's found in 2010. So. My question is if there's a reason for that. The Doctor travels through time and space and whatnot and can conceivably get companions from any time period, one would think. So assuming the companions that were on the show in the 70s were supposed to be from the 70s and whatnot. Why does The Doctor choose his companions in this way? Why has he been sort of going from the 60s to the 70s to the 80s and now the 2000s picking companions in this order. Could his next companion be from 1974? Could his companion after that be from 2043? Is there a reason why he seems to be living his life traveling through time but returning to the same time periods in a linear way to get new companions?

I don't know why, but I need to know the answer to this, if no one here knows I'm going to have no choice but to subject myself to LiveJournal communities.......so I really hope someone does.

Should I watch this?

I just saw that it was on Netflix Instant, and you're not the first person I've seen bring it up...

What? Dr. Who? Go no. It's awful. That question is just nagging at me and I had to know if there's an answer!!!

Torchwood's fantastic though.

I also saw that on Netflix.

Should I watch Torchwood without watching Dr. Who??

That makes me anxious.

Dr. Who Question Empty
PostSubject: Re: Dr. Who Question   Dr. Who Question EmptyTue May 11, 2010 12:14 am

I did. Or well, I watched only the episodes of Dr. Who that involved Captain Jack and I was very nervous that I was going to have to watch all of Dr. Who because I really didn't want to. And so I just watched those episodes and I was a little confused but very quickly got over it because Dr. Who is awful. But I must say when I was watching episodes of season 2 of Dr. Who (for Captain Jack) I fell in love with Martha Jones, she's amazing. But I've hated all of his other companions that I've seen, and also the Doctor himself I just find annoying.

It's funny there's a big Dr. Who crossover in the last season with people from Torchwood and that other Dr. Who spin-off all coming on it. And I was watching it and I was SO BORED and it was so campy and rediculous and then it would be a scene with the Torchwood people and it would be like things got all serious and dramatic. It was very amusing.

I could tell you the episodes of Dr. Who that you 'need' to watch for Torchwood if you want, but it really isn't necessary, there's only some things that might be 'unclear' but really it is unclear in Dr. Who itself, so, HA! Or just try watching Dr. Who, you might like it. It's just really bright and campy which normally I enjoy, especially with a SciFi show, but I just wasn't enjoying it with Dr. Who. Like, at all.

I hate everyone.

But mostly I don't use it, because I have terrible habits of leaving it up and people IM me and then get mad when I don't respond. So I signed out and pretty much just didn't sign back in *shrug*

I never sign out or put up an away message unless my computer is off. I just let it go idle, and hopefully people figure out I'm not there.

Apparently people who talk to me aren't okay with that...which to me says they shouldn't be talking to me in the first place. Like...if you're so offended that I'm not responding to you on AIM that you text me to tell me how offended you are...we've got a problem.

Clearly you have my number to text me anyway.

This sentence should read "if you're so offended that I'm not responding to you on AIM that you
text me to tell me how offended you are...YOU've got a problem." because I don't see how that's anyone's problem but theirs that they're crazy.

But you shouldn't let them drive you awaaaay, I miss Doug time!!!

My favorite is when you block someone and then they call you out on it from another screenname.

That is also my favorite. Because then I laugh at them and am like "HAHA, I'm so glad you figured it out but couldn't take the hint."

Yeah...people really need to take hints more seriously.

Like, if someone messages me on a dating site (yeah, I've been there), and I don't respond...why would they keep pushing? Like...especially if I NEVER respond.

There's this one dude who lives ON CAMPUS, which makes it even more difficult, because he'll be like, "wanna hang?" and all this crap, and I RARELY respond, and he gets offended. Like, if someone did that to me, I'd just be like, "Oookay, not interested" and back off.
