| Jumping on the bandwagon. How many of you have lived in the same place your entire life?
I was born in Washington and have lived here since the day I was born, always in the same general area. Recently I've been having this urge to pack up all my things and move somewhere different. California has always attracted me, but for no real reason except the nicer weather. Although I just got back from Las Vegas and now all I want to do is move down there. I've always gotten homesick on every vacation I've been on and can't wait to get home, but this time I never missed home (just my kitty!) so it felt different. When I got home I felt empty and still can't stop thinking about Vegas.
Has anyone been in this position where they wanted to pack up and start new somewhere? Did you act on it, why or why not? The only thing keeping me here is my family because I have a really close knit family who I adore so much and my best friend; it would be hard moving to some place where I'd lose both the closest things to me. But I just feel like it's calling me!

| I know how you feel Jordan, I feel the same way currently. I have lived in New England my entire life, however I have alternated from Maine to Massachusetts throughout my life. Lived in MA most of my life though, lived in Maine for a total of about 10 years.
Last year I went on a trip to Chicago and I felt exactly as you do about Las Vegas. I still do to be honest, and am planning on doing so. For me, two things have held me back, money and family. Money because I haven't had any lmao, and family because it would mean leaving them and this past year has been a hard one for my family and I feel like they need me here to help them right now. Someday I'm gonna move away but it isn't in the cards for me immediately.
Was supposed to move to Florida but money stopped that from happening, and with losing my grandfather last month I'm happy I didn't.
Look into it and see if it'll work, if it is meant to be it'll work out, if it isn't then it won't. That's how I feel about it. Also, make sure you can find work! Thats really important lmao

| I've lived in northern Virginia all my life, but recently have certainly had thoughts of being elsewhere. I went to Colorado for 3 weeks or so over the past winter, trying to get a Ski Patrol job out there. It was a long shot, as my skiiing skills aren't where they need to be for that.
I have a great job working in a hospital now...and the only moving I want to do at the moment is to get out of my parents' house. They only live here 2 months out of the year (they migrate with the weather), but I just don't like the label of "lives with his parents". I'm planning on making the move at the start of 2012. It'll truly be a new year for me!

| I was born in Dallas, and was raised in a suburb of Dallas, Mesquite Texas. I have lived in a neighboring city, Garland, but still the same general area of where I have lived my whole life. Right now, I live just a few minutes walking distance from the Highschool that I attended when I was a teenager.
I think about moving to Galveston EVERY DAY. (an island here off the coast of Texas just south of Houston). I research apartments, I look at the employment section for digital pre-press. I imagine what it would be like to have my own souvenir shop, or just to work at Murdocks souvenir's and serve margaritas all day to happy spending customers who love the view from Murdocks just as much as I do. I imagine what it would be like to wake up every day and go bike riding along Seawall blvd. EVERY DAY, I imagine what my life could be like in Galveston. They say home is where the heart is, and my heart is there. After hurricane Ike hit, it just nearly crushed me not to be able to go there and help clean up my favorite place in the whole world. It pains me that I don't have a decent car to make the 5 hour trip more often. I always have to rent a car on top of spending the money to stay there.
Things that stop me from up and moving away..... 1. Boyd has to find work there or else we can't afford to stay there. 2. Boyd's dad is here in Mesquite and I know Boyd wont move away from his dad. 3. I really should get a truck before I move to Galveston, because, if a hurricane comes and I have to evacuate, I need something to hall all of my shit back to Dallas. 4. I think it's probably best to save up a few thousand dollars and pay cash up front for rent for the first few months that I am there, so that my apartment will be paid for while Boyd and I can look for work.
Money ... Money keeps me away.... not having enough of it anyway.
Last year I told Boyd we could skip going to the beach so we could buy a new tv. Don't get me wrong, I love my tv but, my heart aches more for Galveston having not been since 2010.
I have saved in notepad on my desktop a list of employers that Boyd might be able to check out in the event that we do get to finally move to Galveston.
For the record, I used to want to live in California. Until I realized how much the cost of living is there (its fucking nuts compared to Texas). Also, residents in California have to pay a state income tax. Texas... does not have a state income tax. Not to mention..... Texas is the leading state in job creations. Our state has less regulations than most making it easier for employers to hire. Economically, it makes 0 sense to move to California..... no matter how beautiful it is there, it isn't worth the expenses imo

| I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life, even the 4 years I was away at college was in Western Mass. I'm sure I'll move away someday, although the way work is going it looks like I may have the opportunity to go to NYC, Chicago or DC.
Ideally though if I head back to law school in a few years I really think I'm going to head out to Arizona. I have a great bunch of friends out there and it's so different from what I'm used to up here. And to quote the hooters waitress when I was there when asked why she moved to AZ "Because nothing bad happens here!!"

| It's funny you mention this Jordan - I told my parents this week that I'm moving out soon and they were not supportive at all. I lived away from my home for about 3 years while I went to college. The longest I was gone without going home (since I lived a train ride away from home/college) was 3 months when I was in California. I've been living back at home for about 2 1/2 years now, and anyone who lived at college and moved back knows what I'm talking about...it's just not the same. I'm ready to take the next step and live my own life and make my own decisions. It won't be easy but it will make me happy. | |

I know exactly what you mean DJ, that is the situation I'm in now as well. I went to college, graduated and now am stuck living back at home and cannot wait til I move out for good. Hopefully next year I can but no guarantees yet sadly

| I was born on Cape Cod and lived there all my life. Only exception is during the college school year i lived on campus in bridgewater, ma. and now in an off campus apartment there. If I can't get a good job I will have to move back home after I graduated in January and the economy is so bad that's prob what will happen I am sooo sick of the cape. None of my friends live there anymore, its basically all nursing homes and antique shops.. and nothing fun to do. | |

| Oh - and you can ask me anything about Jordan too.... well from the waist down, since I'm NOT in his dreams or shadows, and merely exist only in his pants | |
