Has anyone dyed their hair blue, purple, pink or green?

I've been thinking about making my hair one of these colors. As much as I hate the color pink, I admit, pink hair sure makes a statement. lol What about Green? Anyone? Im talking whole head. Not just some streaks here and there. Did you like it? Did you do it yourself, did you have it done professionally? How long did you leave it that color? Did it wash out, etc etc etc.

I've never done that, but I think you'd look awesome with some purple hair! That's my vote, but I'm also not a sylist or anything, lol.

My friend does her hair different colors every couple months. Sometimes blue and pink, sometimes orange and white, others green and blue.. guess it depends on her mood Laughing It really works for her, I totally agree with Cam and think you can work the purple, Mandie!

I've had a few friends that have done the hair color changes. This reminds me of Ramona Flowers btw.

Never changed my own hair color, I've never even done highlights. So...I'm not much help. But I think it's an awesome idea Smile I'd say pink just looking at your avatar, but I'm sure the others would be good too.

Oh, and Jordan that was Deet above you, not me Razz

Mandie, my mom does her hair, pink, purple, blue, yellow just the bangs at the front and half way down the top of her head the rest is her natural colour.

Usually if you want to get vibrant colours in your hair you would want to go to a stylist. Since you have darker hair you would need to bleach it a bit to get the colour you want.

Then the after care, depending on how quickly your hair grows your roots will begin to show and you can do touch ups on them, also you would probably want to shower with some colour protective shampoos to keep the colour from washing out.

If you do decide on a colour, always prepare yourself that eventually it will fade and not be the same bright vibrant colour it used to be, and potentially it may show the bleaching underneath making it look different than you intended.

Now if you are just going to dye over your natural hair colour it may not go as well, your colour will be darker and you may not get the desired look that you were hoping for. It may not even show up as much.

if you do decide to do your hair on your own I believe there are bleaching and colouring kits that you can get at a store and you can do it in your own washroom. You would probably want to get some protective gloves incase your skin stains the dye colour. also you would probably want to wear clothes that you don't mind getting a bit of colour on them.

So a few things to consider. do you want to bleach your hair to get your desired colour? do you feel comfortable to do it on your own? If so go for it, if not go to a stylist.

also how quickly does your hair grow, that might determine if it will be worth it or not.

If you do choose a colour, I can see you more of a blue, or a purple.

You raise some good points. Ive never done some off the wall color, like pink or purple. Ive always dyed my hair some shade of red. I started dying my hair when I was 16, but i always used the store bought products, which they provide you with gloves etc. But it's not like I ever see blue/purple/green in the store either. Which made me wonder if you could buy those colors on a shelf or if you had to do it professionally. My hair does grow very fast. My roots will show in probably 2 weeks. Sad

Maybe I should do a little research, see if there is something I can just spray on for a few days. See if I like it first before I spend all the money getting my hair did up. Wink

Blue and purple. Maybe purple with blue tips yo that would be hot.

Thanks so much for all the feed back.

Thian, you said your mom does her hair, how often does she get her's colored?

well she doesn't do her full head, she just does her bangs and a bit on the top.

its like a rainbow

kind of like lines across the head going down to the bangs like horizontal stripes and they are layerd

so she doesn't get it coloured often. maybe 1 time a month to every other month. the colour does last for her that way because she isn't really concerned about the roots because it isn't the full head, and she kinda is carefree about her appearance.

she does get it professionally done. When you get it professionally done the colour does last longer because the product is better quality.

the store bought stuff that you are getting for say like 5 dollars to 15 dollars off the shelf will wash out or fade.

Most often if you do it yourself and you bleach your hair and then put the colour in, you may not get a full even spread of the colour either which will cause bleach spots. or bleeding of colour.

I would say, go for it. if you wanna do tips. I would do the purple hair and then the blue tips. or blue hair with pink tips.

also something to think about, depending on how fragile your hair is, bleaching could cause it to be a bit more brittle afterwards so you want to get a good conditioner to keep your hair healthy.

I know when I spike my hair and it is short I sometimes put this red paste yellow paste or blue paste to tip my hair. It washes out with a good shampoo and lasts the day. But it is sticky and more for spiking your hair as it is glue.

If you are doing touch ups in the salon, it won't be as expensive

I think you should get an opinion of a hair stylist just go in and get a consultation and they will point you in the right direction for your hair type Smile

I think a darker color would blend nicer with dark brown hair. Purple or blue like you said.

I had a friend (a horrible horrible horrible person inside and out) once who put kool-aid in her hair for a concert.. put in orange.. and she had dark hair and it still looked bright orange. It washed right out that night too! Just an idea!
