so this year has been a constant worry for my grandparents and older uncles and aunts and this morning I got some news I've been dreading. One of my uncles (who is my grandfathers twin brother) passed away last night. I didn't know him very well but am still very saddened by this, he let me use his mini-refrigerator for my college dorm room for my first few semesters and I don't think I actually got to say thank you to him for that. He also let my mom borrow his car when her car died and she had no vehicle.
I'm really sad about this and while the whole day I feel like I held it together, I feel it is all starting to hit me now and I just wanted to post something about it.

Aw, Pete, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hate losing people around me, no matter to what degree I know them. It just hits that spot in your gut, and it's hard to keep off your mind. I hope you have people you can be around that'll let you "let it out" instead of you having to feel like you gotta hold it in.

Feel free to hit me up if you need someone (to talk to about it or just as a distraction) Smile

Sorry to hear that, Pete Sad

I've always felt that it's the death of the ones we don't know very well that hit us the most.

My grandma from my mom's side, and my grandad from my dad's side died only a few weeks apart, and both were very different experiences for me. I lived on the same street as my grandma for my whole life. Despite being really close to her, when she died, I was comforted by the fact I knew her and I could say for certain that she accepted her death. But my grandad lived in England. I had only met him three or four times in my life. I feel when it comes to the death of someone you sorta knew, but didn't know that well, along with the sadness of the actual death, comes the regret of not knowing them that well, and that's a feeling that's hard to shake.

I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers ♥️

thanks everyone.

The wake is Thursday night and the funeral is Friday. Honestly this is the first funeral I'll ever have gone to other than my little brothers when I was 5. I think I'm keeping it together fairly well though so thats good I guess.

Hi Pete,

I just wanted to let you know I don't know you well but perhaps I can offer this advice which helped me to deal with the passing of my very close relative.

Do not hold on to the fact that you never thanked him because you just did and he knows.

It is such a different world on the other side, a world of everything and anything all at once a real loving feel of acceptance and knowledge of everything happening in the world. He already knows how appreciative you are and anytime you need to thank him or talk to him he will know and hear it.

This I am so confident about. Hopefully everything is ok with you.

thanks Thian, that definitely helped. I've always believed that and at times have talked to my brother when I've needed too.

awww Pete. I wish I could give you a hug. Sad

Both of my grandparents died in 1997. My grandmother was my favorite person in the whole world. It is still hard for me sometimes.

Just remember that our loved ones are always with us, no matter where we are or where we go.

Aww I'm sorry to hear that Pete, I know it's hard.. the closest person that has passed away is my grandpa and that was in 2004 and sometimes I still get upset about it and think about it but I do talk to him when I really need to and it seems to help.

On the other hand my great grandparents aren't doing so well lately, which is tough. For the other family of yours that isn't doing well.. just spend as much time with them as you can. Because you will wish you had after that terrible day comes. It's for them just as much as it is for you.

Hang in there, you will be okay.

I am sorry I'm so late.. I didn't see this before. But I am so sorry for your loss Pete. Sad I lost my favorite Grandpa when I was in High School and it was so hard for me, I couldn't stop crying at the funeral. I used to go to his house every day in Middle School and draw pictures with him.

I haven't read this yet either Pete. I have little advice to offer as someone who hasn't experienced much loss myself, but I do offer my condolences.
