I have to read Percy Jackson

I promised my niece that I would. She is reading the 2nd book now and she wants to know all about Greek Mythology which I enjoy, and she was asking me all these questions about Greek Myths and she wants me to teach her about them...it's kind of adorable...but she said I need to promise to read Percy Jackson too...so I guess I have to.

Then...she said something about how that never really happened or whatever (Greek Myths) and I was like "What do you mean they never happened? Of course they did." And then she looked at me like I was crazy for 'believing' in the Greek Gods, and I was like "Well why do you think they didn't happen?" and she said because they weren't in the Bible and I was like "Oh, of course, well, people believed in the Greek Myths the same way you believe in the stories in the Bible, so if you think one is true why not the other?" and I could tell this 8 year old's head was kind of going to explode and then she said "Well, people don't still believe in them because they're not true." and I said "People don't still believe in them because when Christianity became popular everyone had to convert or be murdered."

I don't care if that wasn't entirely accurate, the look on her mom's face was priceless. I love children sometimes.

Also, I'm still working on the first book. It's taking me forever. It's not bad by any means. It's well written, and it's a fun take on something familiar...but it's just taking me so long. I dunno why. I think maybe it's just not what I want to be reading right now.

But I refuse to leave it unfinished...which has really put a damper on my summer reading.

Considering the fact that I'm probably illiterate (I haven't read a real book for longer than should be, so I'm guessing it's kinda like how worms go blind underground), I had assumed this section of the forum was not for me. this anecdote here however was a welcome surprise. Perhaps I will peruse what else this board has to offer.

I've decided I'm going to finish The Lightning Thief tonight at work. I'm not bringing anything else with me, and it's far to effing hot for me to do anything else. So yeah, I'll have five and a half hours to knock out the rest of this book whether I feel like it or not.
