IC 7: Auction Empty
PostSubject: IC 7: Auction   IC 7: Auction EmptyTue May 11, 2010 9:01 pm

WARNING: There is a lot to take in here, so I strongly urge everyone to read this entire post twice before asking questions. If you still have one, of course, we will answer it for you.

Surprise!

You've made it to the merge! CONGRATULATIONS!

The final 13 have now merged into one final tribe, called MANEO, meaning "to last or endure" in Latin.

THE MANEO TRIBE:

IC 7: Auction 2s60ms4 IC 7: Auction Zsny3s IC 7: Auction 15y690y IC 7: Auction 2ic2k5g IC 7: Auction 15i23yb IC 7: Auction 2ccms61 IC 7: Auction Axy6u IC 7: Auction 2db4egyIC 7: Auction 157dr3p IC 7: Auction 20subfd IC 7: Auction 2wcfrzl IC 7: Auction Etuzvn IC 7: Auction 2zgf1qw

The Survivor Auction:

Welcome, Leaders, to the Survivor Auction. In front of you are 20 rare objects and 3 mystery boxes that I have collected throughout time.

Each of you has $1000 dollars that you may use to bid on the items before you. You may only use this money for yourself, you may not give it to any other players. As with any auction, the highest bidder will win the object, and the player with the most valuable objects will be the winner.

Welcome to the Big Brother Round:

This challenge will work a little differently though. This is not a typical immunity challenge in that one winner is immune and the rest go to council. Instead, the four players with the lowest value of objects (or none at all) will be put up for nomination just like in Big Brother. Yes, 4 nominees (more on this below).

THERE WILL NOT BE A VETO CHALLENGE.

Instead, any nominated player who still has a veto in their back pocket will be able to use it to remove themselves immediately from the block, if they so choose (they don't have to).

If a nominated player decides to use their veto, The Auction Winner will act as the defacto Head of Household and put up 1-4 new players (depending on how many vetos are used) in their place. These new nominees, however, will be final, and no other opportunity to use or compete for a veto will be given.

Voting:

YOU MAY NOT USE YOUR VETO WHEN VOTING.

After the four final nominees are in place, EVERYONE (including the HoH and the nominees themselves) will vote.

Those familiar with Tengaged will understand how this voting will work.

Each player has a 3-vote, a 2-vote, and a 1-vote that they must give to 3 of the 4 nominated players (the 4th player receives 0 votes). The two players with the most total votes at the end of voting will be eliminated from the game.

To put it another way, say the final nominees are Nefertiti, Crazy Horse, Lincoln, and Sitting Bull. You might give your 3-vote to Nefertiti, your 2-vote to Crazy Horse, and your 1-vote to Lincoln (leaving Sitting Bull with 0 votes).

If, once all the votes are in, the results are:

Nefertiti = 20 votes
Crazy Horse = 13 votes

Lincoln = 9 votes
Sitting Bull = 5 votes

then both Nefertiti and Crazy Horse would be eliminated from the game, as they received the most total votes. Lincoln and Sitting Bull would survive this round and live to play some more.

All of the object's values are labeled in [red] with the exception of the [3] mystery objects marked with a "?". Their values will be revealed with results.

Bidding

To place your official bid, copy the list of items below into a new post in your Journal. (Remember, you may not edit your Journals. So your final answer is your final answer.)

BETSY ROSS AMERICAN FLAG:
ROSETTA STONE:
DEAD SEA SCROLLS:
HOLY GRAIL:
?:
MONA LISA:
LIBERTY BELL:
SHROUD OF TURIN:
VENUS DI MILO:
HOPE DIAMOND:
10 COMMANDMENTS:
EXCALIBUR (SWORD IN THE STONE):
GUTENBERG BIBLE:
?:
TROJAN HORSE:
HAMMURABI'S STELE:
FABERGE EGG:
MOAI STATUE:
ARK OF THE COVENANT:
GALILEO'S TELESCOPE:
TERRACOTTA SOLDIERS:
AZTEC SUN STONE CALENDAR:
?:

Because this is a non-live challenge, we will have you do your bidding for every item at the same time, but the order above is the order we will auction each item.

For each item you will place a Starting Bid, a Middle Bid, and a Top Bid. This represents BOTH the minimum, median, and maximum that you are willing to pay for each item AND the order in which you will place your bids. You don't have to bid on an item if you don't want to.

ALL BIDS MUST BE A MULTIPLE OF 10

For example: (it is not necessary to color your bids)

BETSY ROSS AMERICAN FLAG: $20, $30, $30
ROSETTA STONE: $50, $500, $900
DEAD SEA SCROLLS: (not bidding)
HOLY GRAIL: $400, $400, $400
etc.
etc.

Determining who wins the Item

If you decide to bid on an item, we will look at your Starting Bid first. If more than 1 player bids on an item, we start the bidding at the Highest Starting Bid. If nobody's Middle Bid can beat it, you win the item.

Anyone who's Middle Bid CAN beat the Highest Starting Bid is still in the auction, everyone else is out. The Highest Middle Bid becomes the new bid to beat. If nobody's Top Bid can beat it, you win the item.

Anyone who's Top Bid CAN beat the Highest Middle Bid is still in the auction, everyone else is out. The Highest Top Bid will win the item.

Ties for items

If 2 or more players tie for the highest bid (at any point, whether it be a starting, middle, or top bid), they will all be eliminated from that particular auction and the next highest bidder will win the round, or even the item.

If all Middle or Top Bidders tie, the item will be go to the highest bidder of the previous round.

If all Starting Bidders tie, the item is forfeited and will go to nobody (but nobody will lose any money).

MONEY

As mentioned before, you are posting all of your bids at the same time, but we will auction each item in order. If you purchase an item, the amount you purchased it for will be removed from your total of $1000. If at any point in an auction, you don't have enough money to cover the bid you've made, you are out of the auction for that particular item. As long as you still have the money left to cover your bid, you are still in the challenge. If you run out of money, the auction is over for you.

EXAMPLE 1

For example, say we are auctioning the BETSY ROSS AMERICAN FLAG and 3 players bid on it:

Player A: BETSY ROSS AMERICAN FLAG: $20, $40, $300
Player B: BETSY ROSS AMERICAN FLAG: $30, $300, $300
Player C: BETSY ROSS AMERICAN FLAG: $50, $60, $70

We start the bidding off with the highest starting bid: $50. Next, we look at the Middle Bid. At this point Player A is now out of the auction because their Middle Bid of $40 did not beat the highest starting bid of $50. Players B and C are still in with the highest Middle Bid being $300. This is the new bid to beat. Next we look at the Top Bid. At this point Player C is now out of the auction because their Top Bid of $70 does not beat the highest Middle Bid of $300.

Player B wins the Betsy Ross American Flag for $300.

EXAMPLE 2

Next we are auctioning the ROSETTA STONE and 3 players bid on it:

Player A: ROSETTA STONE: $30, $100, $200
Player B: ROSETTA STONE: $30, $100, $300
Player C: ROSETTA STONE: $50, $60, $400

We start the bidding off with the highest starting bid: $50. Notice Players A and B have the same starting bid, but since they aren't the highest, they are ignored and all are still in the auction. Next, we look at the Middle Bid. At this point Player A and B are both tied for the highest Middle Bid. This eliminates them both from the auction and the next highest bid of $60 wins the item.

Player C wins the Rosetta Stone for $60

EXAMPLE 3

Finally, we are auctioning the DEAD SEA SCROLLS and 3 players bid on it:

Player A: DEAD SEA SCROLLS: $30, $300, $800
Player B: DEAD SEA SCROLLS: $30, $100, $900
Player C: DEAD SEA SCROLLS: $50, $600, $700

We start the bidding off with the highest starting bid: $50. Next, we look at the Middle Bid. At this point Player C sets the bid high at $600 but all players are still in. Now we look at the Top Bid. Player B would have had it, but, as we know from example 1, Player B already bought the BETSY ROSS FLAG for $300 and thus does not have the $900 to cover the bid. The Dead Sea Scrolls go to Player A for $800.

Player A wins the Dead Sea Scrolls for $800

REMEMBER: The 4 players who have the lowest valued objects (or none at all) will be nominated for eviction. If there is a tie in this regard, the player who spends the most money will win. If this still doesn't break the tie, the player who returns thier bid lists the quickest will win.

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT RETURN A BID LIST IN TIME WILL BE NOMINATED AUTOMATICALLY!!

Your Bid Lists are due by 10 PM EST, Wednesday May 12th

I have a question. How do we win? And what does nominating four people have to do with bidding on items?

Oh, I missed the valuable objects part.

So, we just have to win items then? And whoever wins "the most" wins HoH and HoH nominates 4 people. And everyone gives them 3, 2 or 1 vote(s) and whoever gets the most votes total, goes home.

That is what I got out of it.

And do the red numbers note the cost of the item? Or, is that how "valuable" they are?

If a nominated player decides to use their veto, The Auction Winner will act as the defacto Head of Household and put up 1-4 new players (depending on how many vetos are used) in their place. These new nominees, however, will be final, and no other opportunity to use or compete for a veto will be given.

The four people with the lowest amount total (from getting items) will automatically be nominated.

You can use your veto to take yourself off the block at this point.

The person who gets the most amount of points at the auction will act as HOH.

They will then replace anyone who takes themselves off the block.

AFTER REPLACEMENTS ARE MADE BY THE HOH, YOU MAY NOT USE YOUR VETO!

Hope that clears up anything.

2 people are leaving, this is a double elimination.

LOL!

But, seriously. Some of us are confused. Do we WANT the most points or do we want the least points? Or, do the MOST points thing come into play when you are nominated?

So, whoever gets the most red points wins HOH

But, whoever gets the LEAST votes if nominated, doesn't go home.

If the Final 9 of Survivor were playing this challenge:

Colby
Jerri
Parvati
Rupert
Russell
Sandra
Danielle
Candice
Amanda

And these were the scores they achieved from the value of their items (the red numbers in the pictures)

Colby - 450
Jerri - 300
Parvati - 600
Rupert - 100
Russell - 250
Sandra - 200
Danielle - 500
Candice - 50
Amanda - 100

Candice, Amanda, Rupert and Sandra would be nominated.

From there, everyone assigns a 3, 2, 1, and 0 to the four nominees.

The two people with the most points on the 0-3 scale are eliminated from the game.

You MAY bid $0 on an item if you like. If you decide to bid on none of the items, STILL RETURN A BID LIST! If you return a bid list and bid $0 across the board you still have the opportunity to use a veto.

However, if you return no list at all, not only will you be automatically nominated, but you will also forfeit your right to use your veto.

Return a list!!!
