Family Dinner Empty
PostSubject: Family Dinner   Family Dinner EmptyMon Mar 29, 2010 6:02 pm

How many people do it?

And if not, for how long did you?

The reason I ask is because I come home to my family (which currently has three people living in the house: Mom, Dad, Brother), and they never, and I mean, NEVER make dinner for the three of them. They all just do their own thing...every night.

I mean, there are six people in my family: four kids, two parents. So we never technically had "family dinners," where everyone sits down together, and all that, because we didn't have enough space for six people to sit at a table. The kids always ate together though. As people left for college, the table went down in numbers, and eventually, no one ate dinner together, except on like...weekends when everyone was there at the same time.

Now? Nothing. They don't even eat the same thing, lol. Tonight, my brother made himself soup, my mom just made herself a salad, and my dad will come home and throw something in the microwave.

I kinda hate it.

I eat dinner with my dad all the time. My mom eats later and does her own thing. Healthy choice meals or whatever those microwave dinners are called. She doesn't eat the same stuff as us because she is always trying to shed poundage.

My family was just me and my mom and we wouldn't have like 'family dinner' but we would eat the same things, HAHA, at the same time, HAHA, but usually while watching television or a movie. I miss that, we try to still do it once a week (While watching Dynasty or Dallas) but with my schedule it's really hard.

I don't live at home anymore, but when I am there, we'd have family dinners almost every night. My dad works between 60 and 80 hours a week, so some days he wouldn't make it home for dinner. My sister and I (and my brother, when he was younger) would always eat together then, and my mom would wait to eat with my dad.

We used to when I was little, when our dining room table wasn't just used as storage. For most of my life though I would be at my Gramma's for dinner, and we always were together, but not usually at the table since there were too many of us, so some would be in the living room watching TV, some would be hanging out in the kitchen eating, and some piled around the dining room table. We do that for holidays, now, which is fun :]
Since then, if my mom actually cooks a real meal, its usually spaced out, my mom will eat it when she cooks it, I'll eat it when I'm hungry, and my brother will come home from work/being out and heat it up.

For as long as I remember, that's what our dining room table has been. For a long time, one of our shower stalls was used for the exact same thing.

I'm very curious to know what my parents do when my little brother moves out. If they do anything but move into a smaller house (ya know, one that doesn't have FOUR bedrooms for two people), then they're just ridiculous.

My parents cook dinner almost every night. Sometimes we go out to eat. Of course when I was away at school, and now that I work nights sometimes, I do my own mealage. But there's nothing like a home cooked meallllll.

So yeah, my family's basically perfect. Like me. And Gaga. Razz

God, I hate "home-cooked" meals, because that's like a downgrade from school food. I mean, school food is like bad catering, but "home-cooked" is microwaveable frozen stuff. I'm going to make a documentary about my family in the coming days that will explain all of the reasons my family is a family-fail.

Anyway, the reason I came in here was to say that I just gave up yesterday. My mom was making herself the worst looking salad I'd ever seen, my brother was putting together his like, fifth PB&J of the day, so I just looked around, and was like, "Alright, where are the keys? I'm getting myself dinner."

And I went to Chipotle.

My mom defrosted leftover chili while she was working today. I ate it when I got up from my failnap, and now I'm upstairs so I have no idea if anyone else has eaten xD

I'm uber jealous of your Chipotle D:

...Home-Cooked meals are real, fresh ingredients cooked by you/your family...not microwave dinners - unless by your definition "home cooked" means Hungry Man. Laughing

Oh, I know. I don't know what a real home-cooked meal is.

I honest-to-God can't remember the last time my family made a "home-cooked" meal that wasn't for a holiday. It's embarrassing.
