Lent?

Anyone here observe?

I know some people who aren't Catholic do it just for shits and giggles.

I haven't thought of anything to give up yet though...I don't bite my nails, I quit smoking, I don't eat meat.

Here are some options on what I have left:
- pop
- caffeine (unlikely)
- candy (an oldie, and goodie, but probably not that effective)
- "sweets" in general (that would be pretty difficult)
- cussing (omg...I already cussed in this thread...)
- being mean to my boss

A friend of mine is giving up Facebook. Even I don't know if I have that kind of willpower...

I'm Catholic but not a very good one. So I usually don't give anything up for Lent. I might say that I am when people ask, or be like "Well, I think I'll give up soda", and then just not do anything. Go Catholicism!

Hahahahaha, yep! You can tell I was raised Catholic, because last night, far past midnight, I was like, "Oh, it doesn't go into effect until I wake up tomorrow...it's still today as long as I'm awake."

Excuses and exceptions. We're really good at those, LOL

I'm Protestant, so I didn't do Lent growing up, but I still like the whole story behind it and everything, so I started doing it last year

Last year I gave up pop. This year will be harder...

I'm giving up whining and complaining, bahahahaha. I whine over everything, for no good reason. So I will STOP.

OH MY GOD JESS, what's that going to mean when DJ starts making threads about Polkaroo unlocking your doors and hiding under your bed? You just better hope he doesn't find out!


Also, Lent, that started huh? I hate Ash Wednesday, I just don't like seeing all those people walking around like they've been branded.

I like Lent though, I used to give things up all the time and I'm really good at it, I could give up the hardest things and just stick to it because it was 'only for 30 days' or whatever. Then I just decided I would stop doing lent and just start doing that on a regular basis, HAHAHA!

I remember the first time I didn't get the ash cross thing on my forehead in high school. It was weird. I remember being like, "Omg...I can't believe I'm doing this," and I thought it was such a big deal for me not to...then I realized that no one cared.

And I liked that even more than people noticing

Okay, so I've decided to give up two things:

1. cussing - I know I've already done it today, but I'm gonna try henceforth.
2. spitting in public - Probably the worst habit I still harbor; now that I don't bite my nails or smoke, this habit shall be my next target.

I changed my mind.

I started whining about not being allowed to whine.

I'm now officially giving up biting my nails, because I've done it my WHOLE life and it's getting out of hand, lol

You can do it! I stopped biting my nails one day and never went back! EVER.

I'm doing so poorly at my Lenten promise. I've accidentally cursed so many times today

MY NAILS FEEL SO LONG!!!! GAH!!!

I've seriously just CHEWED THEM DOWN my whole life. I haven't bitten them for one day, and they feel took long. I'm seriously SO tempted to bite them right now....

That's why god invented nail clippers. Or some guy that was like "Hey, I have a neat invention!". Probably the latter.

Or a nail file *cringe*

Oh god, nail files make me wanna die.

I HATE NAIL FILES!!! I can't even be in the same room as someone using it.

But my nails AREN'T long. They're stubs. I can't cut them, lol. But they just FEEL so long, since I haven't chewed on them all day, hahahaha

I'm Catholic! I'm taking a different approach and instead of giving something up, I'm going to start doing something. For instance, this Lent I will find the positive qualities in people (at least try) when I see the negatives. Maybe this way I won't be tempted to strangle my obnoxious floormates!

Yeah, this isn't associated with Lent, but I want to stop assuming people do the things they do for obnoxious reasons and start giving them the benefit of the doubt. Like this guy was being a total douche on the road today, and I decided that instead of simply assuming he was a douche, I'd also assume that he could be rushing home for a legitimate reason...maybe his wife was pregnant or someone was hurt.

See that's where you're wrong, Doug. Douches on the road are just that. Douches.

I'm just around too many people every day to be that forgiving to strangers.
