Lengthy name this time around, eh?  It's in Nicaragua, where they've had seasons past, but while I really liked the Philippines, four seasons in a row in one locale is asking, way, way too much of us loyal viewers.  Using the same location two times in a row is bad, but passable.  But four times, noo.

So it's Blood Vs. Water again, but no returning players and there's no Redemption Island.  It's a twist on Exile Island, instead.  I won't spoil any cast yet, if anyone wants to go and look for themselves.  Not really much I can discern one way or the other.  Hope this season's great.  But I always hope that!

I for one, am happy Redemption Island is gone. Hopefully never to return.  Even though my girl Tina might've become the second two-time winner thanks to it a few seasons ago, I just do not like the idea of Redemption Island.  It's too unfair, it gets away, to me, too much from what Survivor is.  I'm all for craziness and unexpected twists and turns.  But once you are out, you ought to remain out.

PostSubject: Re: Survivor: San Juan Del Sur   Survivor: San Juan Del Sur EmptyTue Sep 23, 2014 2:14 am

Always prefer all newbie cast over returnees... and especially 1/2 cast returnee seasons... even if BvW I was a decent season... certainly better than expectations had been of it. But perhaps it was because expectations were soooooo lw going into that season when the twist/theme was originally announced, and especially coming off of the back of FvF II (which was just the total pits - IMO the worst season ever, no exceptions) did colour BvW (geddit? Laughing ) as an above average season.

Will try not to give too much away, lest people are waiting for the Premiere for to see who the cast & twist are. I am totally against spoilers, so only commenting on what have read on CBS and widely available common knowledge.

The cast for the coming season... meh. Really not too many that jump out at me, so will await to be surprised. Even reading the bios it is PAINFULLY obvious that the majority of this cast were heavily recruited, and a considerable number of them having little or no previous Survivor interest. Prime example of this include the Twinnies from TAR fame, both of whom named players that had played in the last season that just finished as their favourites/who they most identify with. And they were far from the only ones. wtf

The other thing is, that even for those that were originally cast, then having to find suitable relatives etc to fil out the cast... some it is again very obvious who was the original applicant/cast and who was then dragged in to fit the parameters of the theme.

The twist... well, thank fuck no RI, which had previously been mentioned by Probst as being part of the season. And hope not to see it's return! EI is back for the first time I think since Tocantins? I don't mind EI as a concept. Will be interesting to see how it plays out this season. From what I can tell, the Reward Challenges will be 1v1 contests between 'loved ones', the winner winning reward for their tribe - the loser off to EI. (I think that is how it works). These loved ones duels will ONLY be in the reward challenges and have no influence on Immunity Challenges... I think?  ponder

Roll on Wednesday!

While their voices are a bit annoying, I liked the twins on Amazing Race.  They're fun, I like 'em.  I just do.  Plenty of people who watch the show told me I was crazy for liking them. "Ohhh my Ggoooodd Nattie..."  "Oh shut up Naddie!" Didn't want anyone to miss them.  I hope they do decently well, at least one of them better make the merge.  Again you and me Amanda don't entirely agree on our casting preferences but yaknow, I know I'm right and you're wrong. What can ya do!?  Hehe.

Thanks for the post Green Monster, I know your name but I shant disclose such information publically cause I'm awesome like that.  Stiff Little Fingers was fuckin' great live, BTW if you reading this.

Far as I know the Reward Challenges is person 1, and their loved one, sort of "dueling" and the winner gets a reward and picks someone to accompany their loser-butt loved one to Exile Island where they pick rocks or, whatever the medium is, to determine who gets the clue to the locale of the hidden immunity idol.

Wooooo!  Love you tons Amanda.  I'm not saying they're my most-favorite contestants anywhere, ever, or anything like that.  I just find their loud antics, we'll call it, on the Amazing Race, oddly compelling rather than just annoying.

Mostly, I just hope Survivor: San Juan Del Sur is a good season!!!!!

Survivor: San Juan Del Sur Empty
PostSubject: Re: Survivor: San Juan Del Sur   Survivor: San Juan Del Sur EmptyThu Sep 25, 2014 8:26 pm

I tend to agree, Amanda - really didn't like the twinnies on TAR, so I was just as frustrated to see them in the cast. Survivor is an individual game - think for the most part doing these 'loved ones' are better suited to something like TAR, but it is what it is.Though if the producers were loking to be sadistic in their desire for drama, think they got it - you could see how difficult it was at that 1v1 reward challenge minutes into the game, and although it may not be so harsh as the game progresses and players come to grips and get used to it as opposed to when the bomb was first dropped.

Personally, I was not at all upset to see who went last night. Can see the reasoning for it, bit at the same time think that there was some case to be made to perhaps keep someone that had that previous under pressure experience but yeah, realy not phased either way. Oh, and saw that they flashed the #blindside when the vote came out... that was not a blindside, FFS!

One other point about the cast split of 10 men and 8 women starting the game (there were 2 female loved ones that got cut when 1 apparently failed a medical just before the game started) is that it does mean starting off with a 5M/4F split on both tribes. It seems that - at least on the yellow tribe - this definitely is playing it's part at this first vote. I realy hope that it is not going to be a major factor as the game progresses - cause that would really suck...

Oh, and Henry, stoked that you finally got the see SLF. I saw that there were on a tour across the States with the likes of Bad Religion and Offspring etc, so hopefully it will have introduced so many new fans to Jake Burns & co awesomeness! Smile

GM - Yeah that's the tour I saw.  I'd seen Bad Religion and The Offspring before, but I love SLF and I was right up front, like three people away from Jake Burns and Co.  A shame they didn't play a longer set, they're awesome.  Stupid Americans not knowing about Stiff Little Fingers.

Know about the un-even sex split on Survivor with 2 more guys than girls.  It does effect the game, but that's how it goes.

What I will say about Nadiya's oustal, is that I don't believe that was Coyopa's smartest move.  It isn't because I kind of like the Twinnies, truly.  Nadiya was probably the strongest female physically on their tribe.  This early in the game, you've got to WIN.  Plain and simple.  There's at least 2-3 tribe members weaker than Nadiya and they're already down one person.  I wouldn't at all be surprised if Coyopa goes on a losing streak.

PostSubject: Re: Survivor: San Juan Del Sur   Survivor: San Juan Del Sur EmptyFri Sep 26, 2014 4:37 pm

Yeah, that was the point I was driving at, about understanding the reasoning why targeting her to go, but at the same time thinking that having someone that has have that previous under pressure experience of having to perform, from TAR - big difference though is that, so long as you're not last, you're OK. Big difference here in Survivor, where only winning the challenge counts. But not going to say I am disappointewd to see her go, though.

Hopefully a few will have caught the SLF quality on their travels. Funnily enough, last week had a Nats game on and caught in the background the strains of 'Barbed Wire Love' for one of the players as they walked up to bat! haha!

Everyone's gotta go for SOME reason, but considering Nadiya was stronger than other members of the tribe, to pin an easy vote on her for being in TAR was just that.  An easy vote, not the smartest one.

Too early to say much else.  Hope this season will be as nutty as Cagayan, but that's unlikely.

I actually really enjoyed the previous episodes.... I didn't watch TAR, but being a twin myself. I was somewhat looking forward to seeing the twins, so I am kinda sad to see one of them leave so early. I kinda wanted there to be some twin moments I could relate to, so that kinda sucked. I get that they can be annoying, but so far Nadiya  (no idea how to spell her name) wasn't all that annoying. Ignorant and stupid, yes, but she wasn't as bad as I thought she was going to be.

An early favourite of mine is going to be Val, Baylor and I think the dudes name was Jeff? I forgot and am too lazy to look online, but it was the blonde gay guy who seems to be running the orange tribe Wink I thought him voting Baylor so so slimy that it makes me wanna root for him because he's a weasel and they're interesting.

Nobody on the blue stands out to me... just Jeremy, but I think he's playing too hard too fast

Survivor: San Juan Del Sur Empty
PostSubject: Re: Survivor: San Juan Del Sur   Survivor: San Juan Del Sur EmptyTue Sep 30, 2014 8:06 pm

I liked the first episode and I think it showed a lot of promise for the whole season.

I like Jeremy and Val both and hope they are able to go far. I thought her lying about the idol clue was a bad move though, something about the way that played out I feel is gonna go against her. Just the way the scene was edited I mean.

I don't want to root for Baylor due to her just handing Josh her game. I thought that was a bad move. Regardless of intention I don't think it came across very well and I doubt she'll last, she isn't cut out for the game.

and that brings me to Josh. I liked him until his vote was revealed. I was actually talking to my mom about the episode while it aired and before I knew who voted Baylor I told her that if it was him than he is a coward. Seriously man up and choose a side. I was so disappointed when I saw that it was in fact him. Everything about that vote was cowardly. He didn't choose a side, and he voted for the one person who told him she would do whatever he wanted to do. Not smart. I do think that either him or Baylor will go home very quickly and while I think there is a better chance it is her first I kinda hope it is him.

As for the twinnies. I was so happy to see her go. I am with Josh on his comment about how rude it is to call a gay guy one of the girls. I am gay, but I am a guy NOT A GIRL. It really annoys me when anyone says that so yeah there was no redeeming her to me so I'm glad she is gone. If she had said it once than I could let it go but she kept saying it over and over again. I'm not sure how I'll like her sister (forget names honestly lol) but hopefully she doesn't make the same mistake cause that would be annoying lol. I shouldn't let that comment annoy me as much as it does but I cannot help it lol

overall though I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

Didn't know you were a twin Shanna. Jeeze does that mean there's another one of you out there somewhere?  Heaven help us all. Wink

Still say what I say before.  Apart from Nadiya's comments towards gay guys, she didn't do a thing I can perceive as socially wrong.  You're entitled, Pete.  I ain't gay, but I can see how that is a rather ignorant comment for her to just ASSUME he's with the chicks.  Don't think she meant any offense, but, that's why I'm calling her ignorant, not cruel or mean-spirited.  But even so, Nadiya got screwed cause she was on TAR.  It happens. But, this early in the game, vote out who isn't helping you win.  It really IS that simple.  Amazing how often tribes don't follow that advice, but if you look back, those that do, tend to have a very good shot to go far.  Sometimes the person that needs to go is bringing down morale.  But I'd say 8 or 9 times out of ten, it's someone non-physical who isn't helping you win Immunity Challenges.

I dunno yet.  One episode in, this season is still a huge question mark.  But I hope it's good!

hey I thought Big Brother 16 was going great at first and we all saw how that ended...still holding out hope that this season of Survivor remains good.

I don't necessarily think she meant that to be mean, I really don't. It was ignorant though and I do think it played a big part in her going. Baylor told Josh she'd do what he wanted her to do and she voted for Nadiya. Nadiya basically told the entire tribe that he's with her cause he is gay. It was in his best move to get her out cause now he isn't paired with someone other than his loved one, as far as the other players go. I don't honestly know what happened there but Baylor's vote made it not a tie (with Josh's vote being a throwaway). His vote though remains the question mark and I honestly think he wanted her to stay but knew her going was smart and so he didn't vote for her cause he didn't have to. Why he chose Baylor maybe we'll find out tonight, maybe she knew it was coming? I still think it was cowardly of him to do.

TAR definitely hurt her but the final nail I think was the gay means he is one of the girls comments. Though he never told her that it bothered him as far as we know so maybe not.

I'll probably change my opinion a million times this season, I always do lol.

Rooting for Jaclyn, Natalie, Jeremy and Kelly out of who is left.

Cannot stand Baylor, Josh or John Rocker.

Agree with you there Niki, first two boots are people I would've liked.  I'd like to see Coyopa keep losing at this point, except that'll just mean the people I believe I like MORE on that tribe, will keep going.

Have to say though, Val was a dummy.  To lie that early about that BIG of a lie?  Of course they're going to try and flush the idols.  She should've gone to John Rocker and told him she didn't have shit.  He was actually with her.....but due to her lying, couldn't really do much else.

Anybody believing that she has two idols on DAY SIX is just stupid... Yes, I'm on the outs and conveniently have an idol to save me and my only ally who is also conveniently on the outs... while John believes them as he finds his OWN idol? Three idols on DAY F-ING SIX? Dumb people... dumb, lol!

I'm a little disappointed in the editing so far... I feel like I really have no idea who anybody is or where their heads are at. Just seems a little odd in comparison to other seasons.

I guess I'll be in the minority here and say that I actually LIKE Baylor and Josh... Josh is such a weasel that I find him amusing. I dunno, I just don't feel like I know anybody else at this point.

One thing I am worried for is poor, innocent Julie! I really liked what I saw from her and I feel like Jeremy is gunna go on a rampage now that Val is gone and he'll target her! Should be interesting!

I suppose that's that.  The first like, I guess "big drama" centering around a castaway from this season is gone, now.  Again I've got to say, if you're on a losing tribe.....do NOT get rid of your most athletic player.  I mean, come on people.  Again I have to say, you can't play day 5 or 6 or whatever, like it's day 29.  You've got to GET to day 29.

Gah, John Rocker is an idiot. He should have played his idol, especially after everything jacklyn was saying at TC. I don't understand why her name hasn't been thrown around at all, but I think she took a big risk saying the things she did at TC, especially knowing that Rocker had an idol I was nervous the entire time.

I'm actually sad they voted him out because he was a huge entertainment factor that I kind of enjoyed. Yes, he's a racist, homophobic jerk, but we knew all of this going into the game and it was just fun to watch him be stupid yet think he was in control of the tribe. I don't agree that Coyota or whatever is doomed in challenges since he hasn't been HELPING them win anything yet.

Thanks everyone who has been posting their thoughts.  Anyone else, please feel free to add your opinions to the mix.

As for this last episode, I loved it.  It's always great when someone is cocky and gets put in their place.  I have to say the editing didn't leave much to the imagination, but since it's what I wanted to happen, I didn't mind not being surprised.  What a complete arrogant dumbass; karma is a swift bitch and it couldn't have booted a more-deserved person! Wink  Kind of a shame now the tribes are getting switched up....sort of wish they'd every now and then NOT switch up the tribes.  It's been quite some time since that happened.

Total Douche - The person voted out tonight.

I still don't have any favorites or anyone to root for yet. No real thoughts so to speak of.

I kind of like the old dudes on both tribes.
