Survivor : Cagayan Empty
PostSubject: Survivor : Cagayan    Survivor : Cagayan EmptySun Jan 12, 2014 1:57 pm

So soon-ish here, the twenty-eighth season of Survivor is going to be airing.  For the fourth time in a row, they're still in the Philippines but for the first time in that country, the cast will be all brand new.

Three tribes of 6.  Apparently each tribe fufills some archetype.  Brains, Brawns, or Beauty.  To me that third one is a bit of a stretch, but I suppose they needed a third grouping, so there you have it.  Of course it's just a gimmick, I'm sure there'll be 'brains' who are in good shape, 'brawns' who are smart, and there even might be a 'beauty' who isn't so beautiful hehe.

If you go looking, a majority of the cast has been revealed.  I'm happy it's 18 new contestants.  I can only hope this season is good, so Probst and Co. can see that seasons with original casts can pull down ratings those which have returning players do.

I am looking forward to this season though I have read up very little on the season. Hopefully it is a better season than One World though, cause that season is one of my least favorites.

Hopefully it'll be good.  I wish they'd return to some of the older immunity and reward challenges.  Either that, or brand new ones.  There was a season or two, I know Gabon was one, where they did practically all new stuff.  Survivor would be more exciting if they'd quit doing entire seasons of rehashed challenges.  I also wish Probst'd STFU with his play by play of every last thing that happens, but if I was wishing for Probst to do something, dropping dead might be higher up the list.  Evil

am I the only one completely disappointed with the cast? I only watched the initial cast reveal video and no one seemed that interesting or they were overly annoying. I cannot bring myself to watch any more videos on them.

I agree with Probst doing way too much play by plays during challenges, it really is stupid. Also, it isn't that they re-use old challenges, it is that they are re-using the same ones every season. There are tons of old challenges they used to do that they never use now that could be interesting to see again.

Personally I just think Probst needs to step down from being a producer and stick to just being a host. He oversteps his job as host way too many times.

That is what I'd meant, that they keep doing THE SAME challenges over and over, just didn't articulate it well-enough.  The cast seems a bit disappointing, but that's cause they always wanna cast bartenders, models, and lawyers.  We need some Sue Hawk or Rupert(Im sick of Rupert, but he is DIFFERENT from a lot of the contestants on just a basic level).  But yeah, you ain't gonna hear me disagreeing.  Probst needs to.....well, I won't finish that thought in case people with sensitive constitutions are reading. Well, I have no idea if anyone's going to see this or respond, but I did create the thread, so here we are.  I encourage anyone who is watching the season, lemme know what you think?

That first double-episode....WOW.

I mean I have a feeling this season is just going to be one of those backstabby, crazy-ass seasons like Marquesas or something.  Woah.  I mean that second TC, the person who 99% should've gone home, and look at what happened.  O.O  Shocking stuff.  I've said it before, someone will say it again, these two boots are a prime example: YOU CANNOT PLAY THIS GAME BACK-TO-FRONT.  If you play it too fast, you always get burned.  Usually not THIS quickly, but it always happens.  Balancing act of having a strategy, but being patient enough not to go playing like it's the final six, week one. D'oh.

I like a few members of this cast at first glance.  Kass, Brice, Spencer, and Sarah all come to mind as people I just have a feeling may be ones to watch.  Doesn't necessarily mean they're my favorite, a little early for favorites, but ones to watch.

I enjoyed the first two episodes but not crazy about the cast. There are a couple people that I think will be interesting to watch and then there are some I already cannot stand. I do like Spencer on the brains tribe but he is the only one. Anyone who would keep J'tia after she dumped the rice is stupid. Kass put herself in a bad situation by voting Garret out, the tribe is struggling to win challenges and what did they do? Vote out the two stronger guys first. I think voting David out made sense, and to some extent Garret, cause he really was an idiot, but if they really thought it through the best move would have been vote J'tia out and then get Spencer to vote Garret out, which he probably would have done after Garret spilled everything at tribal. I would be surprised if they don't lose again very soon.

Everything about the brains tribe proves why doing this theme during an all-new cast season was a bad idea. When people think of Brains and Survivor, they think of people like Rob C, Rich and Yau-Man. They aren't necessarily the smartest people outside of Survivor but they excel at the game of Survivor. There is no way to know who would really fit that description unless they have already played before. So I think the theme is a joke, because the same could be said of the Beauty tribe and the Brawn tribe.

Will see, I think this is the least invested I've ever been with any season of Survivor. Something about it just isn't grabbing me but as always I will be watching.

Okay... guys, I'm back and alive... I know you were all scared!

Anyway, I LOVED the first two episodes!!!!

I'm totally in love with the Brawn tribe. Tony is hilarious and I think he's got a lot of good going for him. Love the spyshack and the fact that he's already got an idol is hilarious. I think he's gunna be entertaining as hell this season, so I hope he lasts awhile. There really isn't anyone o that tribe I dislike, so... I'm happy with them!

The beauty tribe is great too. Some of the girls are really forgettable, but I'm liking Morgan. Bryce is great too. I loved how he guessed everybody's role so accurately. i think hes definitely somebody we need to watch out for! LJ or whatever is way too smart to be so pretty and I expect great things from him as well <3

Last but not least, the dumbest brain tribe in al history. Ha, I'm currently rooting for Spencer, but they're all very entertaining. I dislike J'Tia, but good for her for suviving her burning of the rice!

Liking the season so far. The Brains tribe was a trainwreck - total and complete last week - and not much better this one, lol. Am glad that they did not just get handed a replacement bag of rice - a la what happened afer Brandon Hantz. IMO, if they had've booted J'Tia then maybe, bu keeping someone that does that then they have to pay the price. O maybe a throw way back to S2 Australia, where hey have to give up their shelter or something to barter for some more rice? hats the only fair way.

A sfor this week, the beauty tribe, those girls sitting there while the uys worked on the sheler as its pissing down rain... fine, sit under the shelter but do something useful - thatch some palms pr something to help keep you a little drier... idk... never seem to see much. It's not as good as a tarp, but ti si a hell of a lot better than just loose palms being used for shelter.

Anyhow, i love all newbie seasons... seems so rare nowadays, and it doesnt help that the last 2 all newbie seasons were not the greatest (S21 Nic, S24 OW), but hopeful for the future. Lots of overplaying going on... seems to be that there are a lot of players overhinking and being preoccupied with the end game than they are with getting into a position to be in with a shot to get that far... The way it seems to be getting highlighted so far this season I think it could be a recuring theme of watching the demise of players getting way ahead of themselves.

I like all newbie seasons too!  I mean Luzon is crazy for not getting rid of J'Tia, but maybe that was their luck charm, they just win ugly.  That rag-tag group of Spencer and those women, and they came through in the clutch and won immunity!  If Aparri really is going to throw a challenge next week, they've got big problems.  All of this adds up to my original assessment of this season likely to be completely crazy.  I welcome it.

Brice went home....well, if he'd been allowed to stick around he might've done some real damage, but I don't believe he was the weakest physically, or mentally, on Solana.

I believe this might be Survivor history, first time ever that the first THREE vote outs, were male.  It's happened in the reverse, but I think, (could be wrong) this is the first time 1-2-3 guys were voted out.  I think that is weakening the men's possibilities of winning overall.

J'Tia is luckier than....I don't know what.  Glad Spencer didn't have to go home; like him.  And for some reason, I like Kassandra even though I think she loves drama too much, and Tasha, who knows the right thing to do, and does the opposite anyway. J'Tia is useless as hell, apart from being pretty, I ain't got no use for her.  I am excited to see what happens next week!

Yes, you are quite correct - heard this discussed on RHAP also, that the 1st 3 boots have been all guys. Can think of a couple where there have been 2 in the first 3, but never 3/3.

What I also heard on RHAP is that there is a 'Power HII' being introduced post merge... the kind like Yul had in Cook Island, where it can be used AFTER the votes have been read out. What a dreadful move... Basically, just like Yul, means that whoever gets it will be given a free pass all the way to F5 or whatever.  Rolling Eyes

I'm here too, just been busy!

The brains tribe is full of idiots.. It's actually hilarious, yet sad. I do like Spencer though, and feel bad for him. He got stuck with a horrible tribe.  Sad David and Garrett were both pretty much morons. Kass is okay. J'Tia is a trainwreck, but I gotta admit she's entertaining.

The beauty tribe is alright.. I like Jeremiah best from that tribe. LJ is ok,but a little boring. Morgan seems like she could be a real bitch, but she's entertaining to watch, she I'd like to at least have her stick around for a while. The two girls on the brains tribe besides Morgan (whose names I cannot even remember atm), seem sweet, but very boring. Obviously, seeing I can't even REMEMBER their names.  Laughing Brice was a bit annoying, so was cool with him leaving.

The Brawn tribe is by far, my favorite. Tony is hilarious. I love Sarah and Trish. I am not a big fan of Lindsay though. The big black dude (the basketball player whose name I can't remember atm) is alright.

so happy that Brice is gone, not sure exactly why but I really didn't like him at all. I kinda hope that Morgan manages to survive to a switch or something cause I think she is one to watch. I think Jeremiah is smart but may have played a little to quickly being in an alliance with everyone. LG is not really playing smart cause he is way too front and center in that tribe, though he'll make it far he'll have a difficult time making it to the end regardless of who is in the majority come merge.

The brains tribe managed to win a challenge, was surprised by that but good for them I guess. I do think they lucked out a bit but we'll see this week if they can win 2 in a row. The Brawn tribe is definitely the best all-round tribe there, and that proves again why this theme isn't good for this type of season, no tribe should be good all-round. Maybe one or two people per tribe but yeah I think casting messed up big this season. Definitely some interesting people but most are imitations of other contestants from other seasons that were not memorable. So far every episode has been good but still don't have a favorite really but if I had to choose one or two people to root for Spencer and Morgan would be the top two right now, but even then if they went this coming week I don't think I'd be really sad about that

Well, that episode should be characterized as the resumption of normal service. The Brains once again were a mess at the challenges, with the exception of Spencer. J'Tia seriously must now rank alongside Lisi from Fiji, in the pantheon of worst survivor ever... though Lisi for mine retains the top spot in that, less than prestigious, honour.

Though whether it was a smart choice of the 2 other ladies, after so much procrastination, even through TC, remains to be seen. There are pros and cons either way, especially, as they anticipated a reshuffle was imminent.

Yeah there's really nothing much to say.  J'Tia is one of the WORST Survivor's ever, but I guess in her "defense" it's because, truly awful challenge-goers like her usually are eliminated early, and therefore not allowed to show just how bad they are for an extended period of time.

I am actually a little sad to see the tribe reshuffle, because I would've liked to see Kass, Spencer, and Tasha be the little tribe that could.....but at this point, they're just lucky they didn't lose every last challenge.  Winning one is better than winning none, which some other tribes have the dubious pleasure of owning.  If Kass & Tasha had voted out Spencer, I would've lost the thread of respect I oddly have for them.  With tribe shuffling, that decision isn't going to matter as much as it would've otherwise, but there you have it.

I think moreso than usual, the way these tribes get reshuffled, is really going to tell the tale of how this entire game comes out.  Luck is always a huge factor in Survivor, in some ways the biggest factor.  Guess we'll just see what happens.

True. They did avoid being Matsing'd - and that tribe had Denise and Malcolm in it and they both managed to make it to the F4... Can history repeat? idk...  Question

Challenge strength/ability is far from being the be all and end all of the game. I certainly would not say that Cirie was any particular asset at challenges, but that hasn't stopped her from being one of the all time greats, and there are plenty of other examples to go along with that also. But J'Tia and Lisi do occupy a particular place in the ranks of the truly awful in this capacity. What has Lisi beating J'Tia in the ranks of the rotten is the abysmal attitude and J'Tia had some understanding of the value of strategizing and social play... whereas Lisi lacked even this self awareness, much less the semblance of understanding or desire to be there once things started to not go her way. And she made the merge! Horrible, horrible player.

So just for someone's excitement, maybe mine, here are the fewly formed tribes for Survivor:Cagayan.  Don't look if you don't want to know.

Aparri: Alexis, Jeremiah, Kass, Morgan, Sarah, Spencer, Tasha
Solana: Cliff, Jefra, LJ, Lindsey, Tony, Trish, Woo

Looks like Solana will be having the distinct advantage physically, but I like way more of the people on Aparri.  Luck of the draw, maybe?  Luck as I said is always a huge part of Survivor and it's always sure to screw someone over, and let some other people hide in the weeds a while longer.

Woo seems cool to me.  Can't believe that Aparri pulled that one out!  Most of my favorites are on Aparri now, after the tribe re-shuffle, so that's good.  Not a whole lot to say about this episode, except......this ENTIRE group of people, are silly in that they're ALL playing this game like it's day 25+ and you've still got a lot of TC's even before the merge.

I can't believe they didn't just pick off Jefra or Trish, as easy options.  They're not helping win challenges so why not get rid of them.  Crazy people yield crazy seasons, which this one is continuing to be, good as a viewer...but I can't help keep watching the screen going, "What are you guys DOING.  Get rid of the people who aren't helping you win!"

I am scratching my head at the way these people are playing the game for sure. I am surprised that Trish and Jefra were not even discussed (at least as far as what we saw). Was happy with the results last night though as I did not like the person who left so yeah that is good.
