Sash was never going to give the idol to Brenda. He had planned on going to the final three with Brenda, but she was planning on stabbing him in the back and taking Na Onka and Kelly to the end. That's why Sash -voted- for Brenda in the first place.

The reason that Sash looks like such a dick for not giving Brenda the idol is that he got in trouble with the producers, so he's being edited to look like a prick.
